Do not miss...Mount Washington State Park, a 60.3-acre parcel perched on the summit of the Northeast's highest peak, is surrounded by the extensive 750,000-acre White Mountain National Forest. On a clear day, views from the 6,288-foot summit extend beyond New Hampshire as far as 130 miles to Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Quebec, and the Atlantic Ocean. The Sherman Adams building, a modern summit building, houses The Sherman Adams Visitor Center, a cafeteria, restrooms, gift shops, the Mount Washington Observatory and its museum. The historic Tip-Top House is located adjacent to the summit building.

About an hour from Buckfield, visitors can drive up Mount Washington to see the incredible view at the peak. At its base, the town of Conway, New Hampshire offers shopping and eateries.

Definitely worth driving the auto road to the top of Mount Washington, the view is spectacular and the observatory is up there is historical cabins, environmental exhibits, and snacks! The Mt Washington Auto Road is located on NH Route 16 in Pinkham Notch, New Hampshire – 12 miles north of Jackson, NH, and 8 miles south of Gorham, NH. They are sometimes hard to find with GPS devices. First try 1 Mount Washington Auto Road, Gorham, NH or simply enter “Mt Washington Auto Road” or “Glen House” in your GPS Attractions or Points of Interest page. At 6,288ft, Mt Washington/Agiocochook is a marvel to behold! Home to some of the world's worst weather, this peak also offers challenging hiking and skiing, or an only slightly more relaxed drive to the summit. Dress for extreme weather as it can snow during any month of the year and many unfortunate visitors have succumbed to the suddenly changing weather!
