Rude Bastards tour of Berlin
My tour of Berlin is very different than the usual Politically correct BS. Actually, think of this as the Politically incorrect tour of Berlin, so feel free to bring along your favorite rude jokes when joining us. It will be full of bad language and bad taste jokes-while paying respect where it is due. No snowflakes allowed! Our exploration will involve memorials, monuments and graves, along with churches and parks. We will discuss a mix of history, current events, local cuisine, the best spots for a cold German beer by the city center of Berlin. Be prepared to be socially active. Other things to note The tour is meant for adults, 18 or older. Each guide will be identified with a small yellow flag and our name!

The Dark Heart of the Third Reich
This two-hour 'walking discussion’ will take you off the beaten track and away from the big sites to explore the essentials of Nazism. We’ll discuss why ordinary people supported the Reich as we stroll through a residential area. We'll stop by the old synagogue to discuss what drove their infamous Jewish policies and use a nearby park as a metaphor to help us understand their foreign policies. We’ll also catch a glimpse of what it was like to fight on the streets of Berlin in 1945, using a role-playing technique that helps put you in the place of local commanders on both sides. This experience is less a chronology of the rise of the Nazis and more a deeper dive into the WHY’s of it all. By the end, you will have explored a now vibrant Berlin neighbourhood and unlocked some of its secrets, all of which will give you a deeper and more rounded picture of those disturbing 12 years. You’ll also catch a glimpse of life in modern Berlin which helps you to understand the profound changes which have taken place since the war.

There will be no Currywurst or Döner on this tour but delicious food with plenty of cultural references to feed your mind. Jewish places and stories
We’ll walk around the “Jewish” sector of Mitte, recalling stories and visiting places related to the absence and presence of Jewish life in Berlin. We’ll see how the stories of Berlin’s Jews shape the present of the city and help to understand how Germany recreated itself after destroying one of its most important minorities. This experience is not a passive lecture, so I invite you to participate imagining, talking and asking - all the why? and how? you feel asking -, so that you can take your own lessons and thoughts about the stories and interpretations I will share.

English Comedy Show on a boat
So, here's the plan: You get to become part of one of the biggest and most fun stand comedy shows in English in Berlin! And it's all on a boat! It's a fun, vibrant, energetic and friendly show - EVERY Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. We'll have pre-show drinks and then enjoy a great line up of Open Mic comics doing 5-7 minutes of material and an awesome headliner to top it all off. After that we'll have some relaxed drinks at the bar where we mingle and you get to know the comics and the other people joining the experience in a more private setting. So, ask all those questions you've had but never dared to ask about comedy. Other things to note You can smoke on deck, but not in the bar. The bar is cash-only, so they don't accept cards. And they only serve snacks, but there's plenty of restaurants and bistros nearby. If you ever find one of the experiences as fully booked, consider joining us the night before or after. We also run other shows - in fact, we have a show every night of the week - you can find the others (not on the boat), here: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/experiences/1002772

East Berlin - a deeper dive
You’ve seen most of the major sights in Berlin, right? I’ll take you further east to explore parts of Berlin most tours don’t take you. There’s a lot of depth to Berlin, and endless corners to explore. On this 4.5- 5 hour tour, we’ll head east down the main boulevard of Karl-Marx-Allee, stopping at notable sights and to admire the communist-era architecture. We’ll stop by the headquarters of the Stasi, one of the most feared and effective secret police forces in history, before heading further east to explore the sprawl of plattenbau, the prefabricated housing estates beloved by the GDR government, in either Lichtenberg or Marzahn. We’ll head further east and climb up a hill for a view over east Berlin, before heading back to the centre. I’ll tailor the tour to suit you - we can skip some things and include extra things. We’ll cover a lot of ground, both on foot and on the U-bahn - so wear comfortable shoes. I’ll give you tips for the rest of your stay in Berlin and will help you get to other places of interest. Basically, we’ll stop for the day when you’ve had enough! PLEASE NOTE- WE DO NOT VISIT THE BERLIN WALL ON THIS TOUR! (You will need a ticket for the public transport - we use public transport at least 5 times, so I suggest you get a 24hr ticket) (I also do a shorter tour, also listed on this site; look for "Brief Tour")

City of Subcultures
We’ll meet up at "Rent a Bike Kreuzberg", a nice little bike shop. I’ll explain why Berlin is such a fertile place for alternative projects and how its counter and sub-cultures have shaped the city. Then we’ll hop on our bikes and take to the cycle lanes, touring Berlin’s alternative sights - its collective projects and unconventional nightclubs, its parks, empty lots and street art. Our bikes don’t have big “Bike Rental” signs, so we can explore the city discreetly. Berlin is a cycle-paradise and we’ll ride slowly, so you don’t need to be super fit. We’ll see the home of the self-sufficient, off-grid Turkish-Berliner who lives in the middle of the city in a house he’s built himself, visit a hospital that became a squat that became an arts centre, then drop by a small farm run by a community of trailer-dwellers. Finally - our explorations over - we’ll return to the shop, where I’ll give you some tips for the rest of your trip. If less then 2 people book this tour I will have to cancel and you'll be refunded. Other things to note I can offer my experience as a private tour. I can also offer this experience in different languages (French, German), or on different dates than the suggested ones, feel free to write me a message!
