Looking for a nice walk/hike? You can start in Thompson Falls or at the State Park, walk along the river and enjoy the views. Thompson Falls State park is a public recreation area occupying 36 acres on the banks of the Clark Fork River, two miles northwest of Thompson Falls, Montana.

Thompson Falls State park is a public recreation area occupying 36 acres on the banks of the Clark Fork River, two miles northwest of Thompson Falls, Montana.
Just over an hours drive from our house, and the views are spectacular!

Front Gate Hours: 6am-8pm
Visitor Center Hours: 7am-8pm
Red Sleep Drive Hours: 6am-6pm
The Bison Range is a pay-to-enter, fee-use area only. Visitors are to report to Visitors’ Center to pay for access. The CSKT Conservation Permit does not allow access to the Bison Range.
NOTE: if you are afraid of heights (like my mom and husband) you may consider taking only the lower road. The Red Sleep Drive is a 19-mile, one way gravel road with 10% grades. At High Point it is 4885 ft.
The National Bison Range is a National Wildlife Refuge located in western Montana established in 1908 to provide a sanctuary for the American bison. The NBR is one of the oldest National Wildlife Refuges in the United States. The size of the bison herd at the NBR is relatively small, numbering between 350 and 500 individuals. The initial herd of American bison was provided by organizations such as the American Bison Society, and today the refuge serves as the central point for bison research in the United States.

Watch out for deer... EVERYWHERE!
The deer are everywhere, and they don't seem to mind the cars zooming by. You can also see Elk, Wild Turkeys, Big Horn Sheep, and on the drive up to our house lots of rabbits!
