Ocean views and steps away from the coast-line, surrounded by lush tropical jungle, Mana House is an idyllic setting, with an almost tree house energy to it. Relax in one of the hammocks along the large screened-in lanai while listening to the ocean. Mana house is only 5 miles down the road from the most recent lava flow. It is the perfect location to see the dramatic effects of the last volcanic eruption. Experience the beauty of the Big Island at Mana House. Instagram #bigislandmanahouse

Простор
Mana House Hawaii is a private and very spacious three bedroom home on the top floor of our two-story house, set on four and a half acres of old growth jungle with direct access steps away to the breathtakingly beautiful coastline along the famous Red Road.

Enjoy a serene nights rest listening to the sound of the ocean on our locally-made natural wool beds, with high quality, all-cotton sheets.

Find connection to nature in this off-grid getaway, where the jungle meets the ocean. Feel rejuvenated in this vivid landscape.

With the expansive wrap-around and screened-in lanai at the Mana House, you will be in your upstairs hide-away surrounded by rainforest trees.

Bring a mat across the street to the cliffs for a morning meditation or to catch spinner dolphins play in the water as they pass by.

Schedule a private yoga session or morning massage or find luxury in sleeping in. Behind black out curtains, the sound of birds and the ocean will steal into your dreams like a nature soundscape.

Feel connected to nature as it provides for you. When the sun shines bright, you are collecting a clean source of energy to power the house. If the rain happens to fall, you can smile knowing that the shower of water overhead fills the water catchment system we rely on. (Backup generator powers house on days there is not enough sun and water deliveries are made during droughts.)

Listen to the rhythmic sound of the ocean as you lounge in a hammock on the lanai and view blue water through coconut and monkey pod trees.

The Mana house property grows wild bananas, coconut, grapefruit, lemons, lilikoi, papaya, hot peppers, tomatoes, Noni, and breadfruit (available seasonally).

Take an afternoon walk across the street and watch sea turtles surfing in the waves or the occasional fisherman casting his rod into the deep sea.

Continue your walk along the coastal trails, perhaps crossing over the lava bridge and through the Hala and Palm trees to picnic on the smooth Pahoihoi lava rocks while watching waves crash dramatically, sometimes spraying 20 feet high above the lava rock.

This rare location, with such a deep channel of water so close to the coast, offers surprisingly close views of dolphins and whales passing by. Bring an instrument to play and you may find a whale or dolphin respond by swimming closer. Go to this lookout point around 3 pm and you will often find rainbows appear in the explosions of water.

Rent an electric bike and ride down the Red Road in the cool of the afternoon through tunnels of tree canopies, enjoying the coastal breeze and the occasional mist from the waves. In this pristine old-growth rainforest, you can almost sense the jungle growing around you. Feel as though you have traveled back in time in this serene environment.

During summer, wild mangos grow all along the road and are available to pick. Or find a variety of other fruit available from roadside stands.

Back at your second floor location, you will feel the cool ocean breeze and take delight in the view of lush jungle from every window. As the sun sinks on the Mauka side (direction of the mountains), the sky will fill with brilliant colors. Sip an island drink and have your dinner delivered as you visit with friends, congregating around the long dining table on the lanai.

Mana House has a large open floor plan covering 1600 sqft and includes three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a mango wood bar and stools for in-kitchen dining, a full wrap-around and screened-in lanai for outdoor-in comfort, a large dining table, hammocks and many couches and chairs for lounging about and taking in the scenery.

The main bathroom has a shower and tub while a second 1/2 bathroom is private to the largest of the 3 bedrooms. The beds sizes are 2 kings and 1 queen (an additional, same great quality, single bed available at your request. We put it on the lanai, facing the jungle. It's one of the best places to sleep.)

Let Mana House be your sanctuary as you experience the raw and powerful beauty of the Big Island of Hawaii.

Within a few miles of Mana House explore:

The effects of the most recent lava flow from fissure 8

The new black sand beach created by the last lava flow

Fishing, cultural events, farmer markets, roadside fruit stands, Uncle Roberts Wednesday night market, drum circle & fire dancers, the town of Pāhoa, and many unmarked access points to hidden treasures along the coast.

Enjoy. Don't play with centipedes, they can sting. Keep summer bugs out by shutting the screen door. This is jungle living at its best! Wash all fruits and vegetables carefully before eating them as slugs can carry disease. Turn off lights when not in use and please don't operate high energy consumers like toasters, laundry and hairdryers when the sun is not out. Use water but don't waste it, our water is collected rain and for your comfort the whole house water supply is cleaned by a 4 stage filtration system down to 1 micron, including UV.

This is a magical space and property. Live simply and soak in the abundance of the island.

I love to travel and meet new people. I recently went to Italy and stayed in Airbnbs across the country. We became friends with two of our hosts. Now I am studying Italian and hope to visit our friends again soon. I love my laid back life, living in Hawaii, with my husband and nine year old son. I enjoy riding my electric bikes along the coast, sitting along the cliffs reading a good book, and living off-grid in the jungle. I am interested in Hawaiian culture. I am currently taking a Hawaiian language and culture class. For the first 18 months of living in Hawaii, I studied Hawaiian culture and permaculture full time. I look hula, lei making, basket weaving, and language. I learned how to plan a garden, what food grows best in this area, and permaculture basics. My family worked with a local school to help build a hale (traditional Hawaiian house). We built a platform in the jungle and slept in a tent for six months and turned our house into a maker space/learning center for the community. This year, I am teaching in our local town of Pahoa. Having summers off allows me to host on Airbnb and meet all kinds of interesting people. I love sharing all the beautiful things I have discovered in Hawaii.
