Beautiful hand built rustic log house nestled in the Cascade mountains of Southern Oregon. 15 minutes to downtown Ashland, 20 minutes to Mt. Ashland Ski Area, and a five minute walk to Pacific Crest Trail. This home is the perfect quiet, serene getaway: close enough to Ashland to be convenient, yet completely secluded and private. Features include private covered parking, fully equipped kitchen, large private covered deck overlooking the forest, seasonal wood-fired sauna, and walking trails.

This log home is especially dear to me because we built it ourselves, spent the subsequent winter creating the interior and building the sauna house. As you can see in the photos, it is warm and cozy and yet spacious because of the high ceiling and the glass wall and ceiling of the sun room. Sitting (or sleeping) in the sun room watching this old forest is wonderful. And when the snow is falling, it's even better! The long covered deck is most pleasant as well, whether you have work to do on your laptop or a good book or just like to watch the birds.
The 38 acres is mostly old forest, some meadows, a pond, great sunset viewing spots, a short trail to the Pacific Crest Trail, and a few "wandering trails" to explore. We are right on the summit, so get lovely breezes and clear views of the night sky (with no glow from towns).
Ashland has definitely feels lively again. The Shakespeare Festival is beginning live productions, and has a great 2022 season planned. Many other theater companies and music venues can be enjoyed as well. Rafting companies offer their usual adventures (in season) on the Rogue River with one party per raft. Noah's River Adventure is conveniently based out of Ashland. Crater Lake National Park is a 1 1/2 hour drive.
Our Pacific Crest Trail is still as beautiful as ever! Mt Ashland's trails and forest road are easily accessible, great for alpine hiking and mountain biking, and snows sports and sledding in winter. Our homestead is a good place to find freedom, relaxation, exercise and inspiration in the midst of forests, meadows and mountains. Lots of space for children to play freely, and room to roam!
Mt Ashland Ski Area is a 20 minute drive from here, offering great winter skiing/snow boarding with extremely reasonable lift prices.
Back-country and Nordic skiers will find a great variety of possibilities (in addition to the ridges and bowls behind Mt Ashland) and I'm happy to share these with you, and maps as well. A day trip down to Mt Shasta is a good plan too.
The alpine trails behind Mt Ashland are snow-free usually until mid-November and the huge wildflower bloom lasts much of the summer. The views out over all the mountain ranges are magnificent!
The house is located on the Siskiyou Summit just south of Ashland, part of our family's Mt. Ashland Homestead.
The 38 acres of forest (unlogged) are the site of the historic old wagon (and early automobile) road, now our driveway, crossing the summit between Oregon and California. Before this, from time immemorial, the crossing was used by the Shasta, Karuk, Yurok, Takelma and many other tribes. This has been our family home since 1982, and we've been caring for this peaceful land ever since. We are part of the bird flyway and our forest is home to thousands of birds. Animals are primarily deer and fox. On the property there are three houses (the Log house, the Forest house, and the Pond house), all far enough away from one another to be private and secluded. In the photos you can see the 110 foot covered walkway that connects the Log House, the Sauna House, and the Forest House.
I live permanently on the property with my dog Kellen in the Pond House, together with my son Nico and his dog Wilfred. We enjoy meeting people and will be available if you need anything during your stay.
The Forest House will also be rented at times, but has a separate driveway, parking and entrance, with forest in between. The Log House has a key pad entrance so you can check in if we're not home when you arrive. The central heating and AC is adjustable to your comfort. Many guests like to enjoy a fire in the wood stove in the evenings. All details for getting here, using the WiFi, house rules, and everything else will be available to you upon booking in a detailed itinerary section.
COVID-19 Note:
While we are still needing to be careful, I am blocking the day before you arrive when you make a reservation. This way I can feel secure that you are as safe as possible according to the guidelines of the CDC and WHO and I can follow their cleaning protocols. I use an approved virucide: Envirox Concentrate 118 Fresh. We are vaccinated and wear masks when meeting indoors.

Каде ќе бидете

Ashland, Oregon, Соединети Американски Држави

Our Mt Ashland Homestead is situated far from any neighbors, making this the perfect quiet retreat. On the 38 acres of forested private land, there is a pond, some walking trails, a seasonal sauna that can be used upon request (October-mid-May), a gazebo lovely for hosting family dinners, and great view points for sunsets, Mt. Ashland, Mt. Shasta, and the surrounding mountain ranges. Within five minute walking distance is a Pacific Crest Trail trailhead for hiking, or endless trail running. The wildlife guests most often see here are deer, many kinds of birds and squirrels, a family of Great Gray owls, wild turkeys and sometimes the foxes and flying squirrels.
Great bike rides take you up to Mt. Ashland or down to Emigrant Lake on beautiful roads with few cars. Mt Ashland Shuttle helps you do the mountain biking trail from Mt Ashland down into Ashland. Noah's Rafting is a rafting guide company based in Ashland offering many levels of rafting on the Rogue River. Then for the end of your day, it's an easy fifteen minute drive into Ashland for dinner, a play or music.
From about Christmas through at least the end of February, one can usually play in the snow here at the house: build sled runs and snowmen, snowshoe or cross-country ski (snowshoes and x-country skis can be rented in town at Mountain Supply).
A twenty minute drive takes you to Mt. Ashland. Mt Ashland Ski Area offers excellent alpine skiing for all levels, equipment rentals, inexpensive lift tickets and is open December through March or April. May through November, the mountain offers beautiful alpine hiking, huge wildflower meadows, and views of mountain ranges in all directions. The forest road opens up to vehicle travel when the snow melts off.
