Hands-on dairy farm tour
We are Liberty Hill Farm, in Rochester, Vermont! Tours run Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 9 am. Our farm tours are scheduled to coincide with daily chores to allow guests the opportunity to experience daily farm life. Guests will be able to watch the cow milking process and even try their hand at milking! From there, we will explain the journey from cow to milk jug. Guests will learn about the different ages and stages of the dairy cow, from birth through adulthood. We will meet, pet, and even feed baby calves, explore the barns, and possibly even witness a new baby being born! Every tour is adjusted to meet the needs and interests of our guests. We encourage our guests to participate hands-on, and encourage questions and ideas! We simply love to share our love of farming and our animals with others! ***All proceeds from our farm tours go directly to our nonprofit organization, Liberty Hill Center for Agricultural Education. *** Other things to note: Tours will be held rain or shine! I only cancel if temperatures are below zero, so please plan accordingly! It is up to the guest to check weather reports. No refunds will be given for guests canceling the morning of the tours for weather-related issues. We love all animals, but cannot host guests’ pets, for the safety and well-being of our animals!
Make a Handblown Glass Object
Want to try your hand at glassblowing? It is exciting! Make a flower or a paperweight or an ornament with our help. You'll experience first hand the thrill of working with molten glass and will create a unique work of art from start to finish. I will start with an overview of the glass studio and the glassmaking process and give you an actual demonstration on how to make the item you've selected. You’ll roll the glass in the color(s) of your choice, blow into the pipe, and help shape the piece. After an overnight controlled cooling process, you walk away the next day with your own, one-of-a-kind creation or we can arrange shipping for a small additional cost. Other things to note This experience is open to any one from the age of 8+ If the times available do not match your travel plans let us know to see if we can accommodate you a different day. We require all participants to be masked during the up tick in Covid 19 cases.
Barn full of Goats
Guests will be welcomed into our barn where there will be a short explanation about how to safely interact with our goats inside the pen. We will then head into our goat pen for your "goat therapy" session! Guests are often surprised at how friendly our goats are!! Our girls are friendly, funny, curious creatures who are very smart and capable of knowing their names and learning daily routines. And since this is a working dairy goat farm every spring there will be a lot of bouncy GOAT BABIES to play with!! While visiting feel free to ask questions, we love to talk about our goats and share what we have learned through our experience as dairy goat farmers. You are welcome to take photos and share them on social media posts but please tag our farm, we'd love to see your pictures! We can’t wait for you to join us on the farm, meet our goats and let us show you why we love them so much! Trust me, you’ll be glad you did!!! Other things to note: 1. Non-alcoholic beverages are provided 2. Goats like to taste things, please consider wearing long hair up and no dangling earrings. 3. No pets please unless you require a service animal and then please notify the farm prior to arrival, goats are scared of dogs. 4. There are no bathrooms in the barn, please plan ahead. 5. Please wear clothing/shoes that can get dirty.
Hands On With Magical Miniature Horses
We will meet for a short orientation outside the barn. We will then introduce you to "the herd" and select a few horses to demo how to approach them, halter and lead them, groom them. You will then be helped to choose your own horse for the day. If the weather is cooperative, we can go for a short trail walk and perhaps see some of the wildlife who seem to be more comfortable and come closer when we humans are attached to a horse! Q and A is ongoing. All questions are welcome, and we will make every effort to gear the experience to the guests' individual ages and interests. Some may simply want the 'therapy value' of touching and communicating. Some may want information on how we care for the horses. Some may want a demo on how we show them in competition. Energetic guests may want to take a horse over a set of appropriately scaled jumps or obstacles. All can be arranged, and everyone in the group can do something different, as long as I can maintain my ability to be six places at once. :) We can also provide a special occasion for any age guest and his or her celebrants, with appropriate refreshments that you bring along or order here. Other things to note Please dress appropriately for the weather. Closed-toe shoes, please. Sunscreen and bug repellent are handy seasonally. THE MAGICAL MINIS EXPERIENCE MAKES A FABULOUS, ONE OF A KIND GIFT!
The Healing Nature of Horses
Experience being with a herd of intuitive, intelligent and sensitive horses . Learn to listen using your senses, intuition, body wisdom and heart intelligence. We begin this personal learning experience by sharing our stories, impressions and/or past experiences with horses. I will share impressive skills unique to horses and the insight they impart to humans. The nature of the horse is powerful medicine for the heart & soul which we integrate for ourselves through mindful, energy balancing practices for peace of mind, and our physical & spiritual health. Once we have integrated these techniques we will meet the herd for a personal encounter and take these skills with us wherever we go. Pig Feeding and Belly Rubs on a Scenic Farm in Vermont
At River Ridge Farm we LOVE our pigs! There are three resident pigs we are keeping as pets. Herold, Mama and Wilbur are sweet small/medium sized pigs whose breeds are known for being very social and friendly. Guests will enjoy feeding them snacks while watching their keen senses and rooting skills go to work, then we will be free to enter the pen and give back scratches and belly rubs as well as learn about upkeep of the pigs and their chicken friends. Collecting farm fresh eggs to take home and feeding the chickens finishes the interaction. This event takes up to 30 minutes and is located close to wonderful restaurants or hiking spots for an easy way to “make a day of it!” :) If farm hopping is your goal, there is also a llama farm that offers hiking with llama companions in addition to a horse farm that gives tourism trail rides on their big draft horses. Ask Diana to help with any arrangements or recommendations to fully enjoy this gorgeous part of the green mountains!

Snowy Woodland Snowshoe and Hot Cider, for Dogs and People
Dont leave your dog home while you have all the fun! We'll meet at my place, a diversely wooded multi-acre private Guest House down a winding dirt road close to town. We can let the dogs go nuts meeting each other while we select snowshoes and check on gear. Our 1 hour hike will take us through mixed beech and maple woodlands, luminous in the sunlight. We'll pass through pine boughs heavy with snow and may catch a glimpse of a beaver lodge or Camels Hump, Vermont's second highest peak. Our easy winter wonderland trail is the perfect terrain for the dogs (and us!) to get plenty of fresh air and a great place to learn how to shoe. At the end, we'll trudge home to a steamy pot of mulled cider to warm up with new friends.
