Great sandwiches and baked goods. On the way to Freeport and just down the road from Bradbury State Park. Eat in their dining room or grab some lunch then sit outside on their picnic tables.

It's located a little over 1 hour from the Lake house.
The largest city in Maine. The Old Port District and walk on Commercial street are probably one of our favorites. Commercial Street is the tourist hub of the city with lots of shops and restaurants on both sides of the street. The cruise ship docking area is at its east end. It has lots of character with its old buildings. Walk some of the alleys which have even more shops and restaurants.
If you're tired of the street life, take one of the popular scenic cruises or whale watches, or hop on a ferry to the islands in Casco Bay.
For a larger view of the city, stop at the tourist info center in the Port Terminal building and purchase a walking tour guide. The one for Congress St. is fascinating.
The light house is the oldest lighthouse still in continuous use in the U.S. Beautiful park surrounds the lighthouse. A visit to the museum gives a history of the light, well informed staff to answer questions (museum is small and maybe not as much fun for kids).
Highly interactive Children's Museum of Maine. Go next door to the calmer Portland Museum of Art, a small, but eclectic museum with Impressionist works, Maine landscapes by Homer and Wyeth and other collections.

Fun & small zoo with local animals like, moose, black bears, mountain lion etc. They sell ice cream as well.

Right near the causeway in Naples. The food is pretty decent and the view is spectacular. Two levels of seating with much of it outdoors. Great spot to watch the comings and goings of boat traffic on Long Lake or, the seaplane that offers tours of the lakes region.

The Kancamagus is a great scenic road through the White Mountains with plenty of hiking trails. One of the first sight seeings on this road is the Lower Falls. No Hiking required for this spot (plenty of other opportunities though further up the road). Just a great place to enjoy the view of the falls and put your feet in the water.

Pick a nice day with clear views to go to the top of the White Mountains. You can drive your own car to the top. For those who are afraid of heights, this might not be something you would enjoy as there are no railings along the road while driving up.

Get up on top of this small hill to see the Lakes Region. On a clear day you can see all of Crescent Lake Panther Pond and down to Sebago Lake as well.
The hike up is steep...more suitable to older kids but, we did it with out 4 and 6 year olds this past summer.
Nice views of Casco Bay and the surrounding region. A few trail options allow for folks of varying skill levels.

Established in 1783, Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester is home to the only active Shaker Community in the world today.
There you will find an interesting museum and library. Tours are offered to have a peak at the Shaker lifestyle and six of the buildings standing on the property.
