“The Dominican Amber Museum is one of the most visited places in Puerto Plata. Inside, it hosts one of the biggest resin exhibitions in the Dominican Republic. The country has the most important amber deposits in the world; moreover, blue, green or warm honey colours are unique from this area due to its volcanic activity. Here, you can discover the history of this vegetal-origin precious stone. One of the most important stones of this museum is a 40cm lizard conserved inside a piece of amber. This resin can hold prehistoric fossils of plants and little animals on its inside due to its sticky nature, that turns this stone in subject of study. It is said that Steven Spielberg was inspired by this museum when he was working on his famous film Jurassic Park ”

“General Gregorio Luperón House Museum, in Puerto Plata, is one of the most visited and beautiful places in the Dominican Republic, because there, it is conserved the legacy and work of the Dominican national hero. The museum is located in a victorian-style building. Inside, you can discover General Gregorio Luperón origins and story, thanks to the numerous photos and personal objects that the museum possesses. The life and times of native-born son and independence leader Gregorio Luperón are impressively fleshed out inside this beautifully restored, pale-green, Victorian-era building. Photographs and period artifacts trace Luperón's life, from humble beginnings to his role as provisional president during the 'Restoration,' as well as the story of Puerto Plata during the late-19th century. Staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic ”

“Occupying the former 16th century home of Spaniard Francisco Tostado, this striking colonial building restored into a museum—also known as Museo de la Familia Dominicana del Siglo XIX—showcases the lifestyle of 19th century middle class Dominican families with model displays of bedroom and library furniture to a charcoal oven kitchen, sewing room, and tea lounge. Items were collected from various prominent families to recreate each scene. The building’s double Gothic-Elizabethan window makes it the only house in the Americas with this architectural feature.”

“The Fortaleza is located at the end of Las Damas Street. The statue in front of the building depicts Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo y Valdés, governor of the fortress from 1533 to 1557, and author of Historia General y Natural de las Indias. The statue was imported from Salamanca, Spain in 1977, and was made by the artist Joaquín Vaquero Turcio. The central tower of the building is 18-meter high, with walls 2-meter thick. The fortified walls around the building are 3-meter thick, except on the river-side where the walls are 1-meter thick. The cement holding the stoned walls together is a mixture of gypsum, clay, lime and the blood of animals.”

“The famous Malecon that runs along the ocean in Puerto Plata. Walk the entire length (it's LONG!!!) or pop in one of the many "casitas" along the way for a drink and/or food. We recommend Big Lee's! He's a great guy!”

Црква
“Recognized as one of the oldest churches in the Americas, Catedral Primada de las Americas is Santo Domingo’s most famous religious structure. Tucked into the old-world streets of the city’s Colonial Zone, Santa Maria was built in the early 1500s and remains an icon of the country’s Catholic community. Its classic Gothic and Baroque features are a nod to the church’s European roots and an extensive collection of woodcarvings and religious artifacts make a visit well worth the trip. ”

“The Columbus lighthouse is a monument located in Santo Domingo East about 20-25 min from Boca Chica. It was built in tribute to Christopher Columbus whose remains peacefully rest in there. It's architecture reflects a cross-shape beam of light that represents the christianization of the Americas. This monument is both a mausoleum and a museum showcasing objects including a boat from Cuba and colombian jewelry”
