The Palette Pad was the studio of well known Texas landscape artist C. P. Montague, one of President Lyndon Johnson's favorite artists. The outdoors come inside with the walls of windows. Comfortably furnished in a Texas themed style. Queen. Rural. Enjoy beautiful sunsets, fireplace or fire pit in the fall and winter as you unwind from a busy day working or playing. Feel free to roam about the 172 acres, go down to the river below the house, or just watch the baby goats playing together.

Простор
Our setting will capture your attention and inspire you. Located within easy driving distance of Georgetown, Round Rock, Austin, and Salado, you are close to all the recreation activities you desire. The Palette Pad at Scurlock Farms is on the outskirts of Georgetown offering beautiful long range views of the San Gabriel River bottom from an elevated wooded bluff. The home is on a 172 acre working farm, with horses, cattle, goats and chickens. The Palette Pad offers peace and quite - many guests have told us they literally felt the stresses melt away when they entered the farm!

Scurlock Farms is a place you can look forward to going "home" to if you are traveling on business.

You can attend all of Austin and Georgetown's art and music festivals, such as Formula 1 Grand Prix, SXSW Festival, Lallapalozza, and Georgetown's Festival of the Arts. Also minutes from Saledos shops and Wine & Chocolate Festival.

The Palette Pad makes an ideal home base for Texas Hill Country day trips to local wineries, wildflower viewing, shopping and antiquing. Explore the InnerSpace Caverns in Georgetown, swim in the famed Blue Hole lagoon, or hike or bike the miles of trails around Georgetown, then come home to a peaceful hideaway.

Take a short walk to the San Gabriel River that flows along the farm. Relax surrounded in rustic beauty with a clear view of the night sky and stars, perfect for stargazing. Pick up pecans if you'd like. Archaeology buffs can hunt the limestone river banks for a variety of fossils or the hillside for Tonkowa and Cherokee Indian arrowheads. Many avid birders have seen a lifer on the farm. Visit our blog for a list of those we have seen. Maybe you'd prefer to have a campfire and weenie roast on the banks of the river? Practice your casting in the San Gabriel or sit on the bank and watch the catfish and bass swim by. This August guests to two different homes on Scurlock Farms have caught about 40 fish each - needless to say, both enjoyed their stay at Scurlock Farms! Make yourselves at home while you are in our care.

The river rock structure was hand crafted by Texas landscape artist C. P. Montague and her husband. The original owner used the studio to create and display thousands of the Texas Hill Country landscapes for which she was known. Many of her works were completed while sitting at her easel at the wall of 7' northern exposure windows. Bring your palette and paints, you'll be inspired too! This private, non-smoking accommodation is perfect for the business travel, writing, painting, honeymoon or romantic get-a-ways.

Numerous excellent camping, hiking, fishing and water related activities can be found at Cedar Breaks, Jim Hogg and Russell parks, all located around Lake Georgetown. Southwestern University is a 10 minute drive. We are within 15 minutes of many golf courses, among them Teravista, Blackhawk and Sun City. It's a 15 minute drive to Round Rock and the Premium Outlet Mall, including IKEA, and 20 minutes to Del Webb's Sun City.

Our guests have told us they have really enjoyed the beautiful outdoor dining area at the edge of the bluff. A charcoal grill and fire pit are provided. There are also rockers under the centuries-oldlive oak trees and you can watch for the deer in the evening, or listen as the owls begin hooting at dusk.

The evening of your arrival, I will bake a batch of from-scratch homemade muffins of your choice; Banana (with or without pecans), Blueberry, Chocolate Chip (with or without pecans), or Snickerdoodle, along with fresh fruits, coffee and a variety of hot teas.

If you don't feel like cooking in the fully equipped kitchen or go to a restaurant, have your muffins and coffee outdoors!

Пристап за гости
Beautiful sunsets and views, river, fishing, hiking trails around the farm, getting up close and personal with the farm animals, picking up pecans. Nothing is off limits - feel free to roam about and explore. Enjoy the fishing - several recent guests have caught many 12" - 15" bass and one said there are 100's of blue gills, picnic along the upper river bank at the picnic table, hiking about the property, birding (2/3 of all birds found in Texas are seen in our county), stargazing in our clear Texas night skies, looking for arrowheads, or simply relaxing at the end of a day of business activities on the patio and watch the colorful sunsets while having a glass of wine.

Non-aggressive dogs are welcome to stay at Scurlock Farms. We are pet friendly and do not require dogs to be on leash. Dogs LOVE the freedom and the farm as much as their owners do! Please note there is a $60 pet fee.

We have a fire pit for your enjoyment during the cooler times of the year. We provide the firewood for you. Please remember to keep the fires smaller in the fire pit.

It is very dark in the country, so remember to leave on your outside lights if you plan to arrive back at the farm after dark.

Wildlife is abundant - keep your eyes open for deer, raccoons, possoms, bobcat, and you might spot a red or gray fox.

The Great Snowy Egrets nest nearby and almost always will fly up from the river when they are disturbed by visitors to the river. Great Blue Herons have a large rookery at the river, and it is fascinating to watch these 3' tall birds bending over working on their nests. Binoculars are provided for your use in The Palette Pad.

Please note that for longer stays, the home will be professionally cleaned every two weeks and a $75 cleaning fee will be charged every two weeks.

Georgetown, Texas, Соединети Американски Држави

I love the peace and tranquility of the farm. Having the varied terrain - prairie on top, heavily wooded bluff and areas, and the river bottom with the water, marshy area, makes it fun to explore and affords great views from the homes along the upper bluff.

Scurlock Farms is ideally located as it is only 10 minutes to Southwestern University and Georgetown, 35 minutes from ABIA, and 10 minutes away from many restaurants, the Palace Theater with excellent plays, Blue Hole park with swimming in downtown Georgetown, beautiful parks and plentiful golfing opportunities. Many people enjoy spending a day around the award winning "most beautiful town Square in Texas", with many shops, antique shopping and dining opportunities. Wolfe Ranch shopping center has been named one of the most beautifully landscaped outdoor malls in TX and is a shopping destination for many.
Scurlock Farms is only a 15 minute drive to Round Rock Premium Outlet Mall, a short drive to Saledo, and only 75 minutes to Magnolia in Waco. Austin and its many activities is a 30 minute drive - Formula One racing, 6th street, University of TX, food trailers, live music, Barton Springs and many festivals.

By 2015 both Dan and I had retired from the insurance industry. Now we can devote all our time to Scurlock Farms and the two vacation rental homes on it. We are active in our church and 10 years ago we started a program to cook for our elderly, sick and shut-ins once a week. I have volunteered at The Caring Place in Georgetown (a wonderful place to shop when you're visiting!), and serve on The Board of Directors. All proceeds from sales in our shops go directly back into the community, assisting those in need. I have always loved to read and read both on my iPad and real books. James Patterson and Clive Custler are two of my favorite authors. I read whenever I can snatch a few minutes here and there. We love to garden and between mowing, goats, chickens, and gardening I will never be bored or lack for something to do. I love The Blacklist, NCIS, Bluebloods, NCIS, Bull Castle and The Good Wife (bummer that The Good Wife and Castle have ended). 5 things I can't live without are my glasses, Sweet 'N Low, microwave, smart phone and computer. Dan and I love to interact with our guests. Since we are on a working farm, children love to "drive" a tractor with Dan or David. Children and adults alike enjoy visiting with, holding and feeding the goats and horses. Young children love helping gather eggs from our free-range chickens. When the garden is in production, you can pick greens for your dinner, fresh tomatoes, or pick up pecans in the 19 acre orchard if you visit in November. I love giving tours of the farm in a Polaris, showing guests the animals, river and hiking areas about the farm and answering questions they might have. When my mom and dad bought this beautiful piece of property, they gave each of their 5 children the option of building a home at a location of their choosing. Dan and I were the only ones that took them up on it. After my dad died in 1986, Dan and I began buying the farm. When my mom died in 2010, she left her home and art studio to us. We've raised our family here and made the same offer to our two sons and our youngest took us up on it and built a beautiful home for his family in the middle of the property. Our oldest son couldn't wait to leave the farm when he turned 18. He started a successful IT business in the Dallas area. In his 50's, he couldn't wait to get back to the farm! Funny how the wheel turns, isn't it? Last summer he sold his business and they bought what had been a third vacation rental home on the farm. He and his wife are loving living in the peace and quite of the farm and have a wonderful garden. Rocky Overlook and The Palette Pad are the heart of the farm and I could not even think of selling them. I didn't want them to fall in disrepair from not being used. Both are so unique that I wanted to share them. My sisters helped me and we totally remodeled the interiors of both and the results have been spectacular. It has been so gratifying to share mama and daddy's dream home and talents with others. In the house, I have a notebook of the story of their searching for and finding the property and building the houses. Also, the story of mama's painting and how she became C. P. Montague and a favorite of then President Lyndon B. Johnson. The joy and appreciation that guests have when staying there are a living tribute to mama and daddy! In July, 2013 we were fortunate enough to be able to purchase the adjoining 60 acre farm. That farm has a little over 1/2 mile river frontage, so now Scurlock Farms has little over 1 mile of San Gabriel River frontage. We call the new property Indian Bluff as the highest point of the river for miles is behind the house, and many Indian artifacts have been found on the property.

We like to meet all of the guests that stay with us at the farm. I normally meet most when taking the basket of warm, freshly made homemade muffins the evening of the arrival. We are available should children want to feed the animals or hold the baby goats and Dan's even been known to give rides on one of the tractors. I love giving tours around the farm to give guests an idea of the lay of the land, river, and where they might like to hike or explore.
