Каде ќе бидете

Collimento, Abruzzo, Италија

Beautiful mountainside setting, near to the ski resort of Campo Felice (and 2 other ski resorts are within a 40 min drive). Beautiful walks are easy to find, with varied flora and fauna - from wild orchids to eagles. The lake of Campotosto is close by with plenty of watersports available in the summer.
It is a 20 min drive to the university town of L'Aquila which has museums such as Maxxi (modern art) and MUNDA (national museum of Abruzzo), a Spanish Fort, fountains, palazzi and duomo with a sacred door, as well as a daily outdoor market, shops, bars and restaurants. Locally there's a 15th century abbey and the remains of the Roman theatres are at Amiternum.
There are local restaurants and trattoria serving typical Abruzzese food in all of the local villages and Collimento has a Caseificio - making pecorino and mozzarella as well as yoghurt, ricotta and butter and selling local products.
Easily accessible via car/autostrada network. Trains from L'Aquila go to Sulmona, whilst coaches leave regularly for central Roma and airports (approx 80 min journey) as well as Pescara and Teramo.
Days out:
Alba Fucens is an excellent spot for pre-Roman remains and a beautiful abbey on the hill. Ask for the guide to let you in (in the bar or the tourist info) It’s next to Avezzano and about 45 mins drive on the A24/A25. Recommend the restaurant in the square for a good lunch. This a good place to stop on the way in from Pescara.
Assergi: A village off the motorway to Teramo through a long tunnel is a lovely walking spot into the mountains near Corne Grande, the highest peak in the Apennines. Lovely old town with a beautiful church and excellent restaurants
Celano is a lovely town with a great castle/museum and lots of walking spots and restaurants/bars
Sulmona is about 45 mins drive away, a lovely old city with a 13th century aquaduct and shops selling sugared almonds (seeing is believing). Birth place of Ovid. Takes an hour on the train from L'Aquila and it’s a very pleasant journey. Train station at Sulmona is 30 mins walk outside the town so take the bus outside the station to ‘il centro’
Largo de Campotosto is a beautiful drive and huge lake. Good places for lunch or picnic (buy picnic goodies from the Caseficio in Collimento)
Subiaco, towards Roma, is beautiful – medieval city where Lucetia Borgia was born. Stunning monasteries on the outskirts where the first Italian book was published are well worth a visit. On the A24 to Roma.
Amiternum has the remains of a mini Colliseum and a Greek theatre. They’re both free and you can wander around at your leisure. Open in the mornings.
To get there – follow the road to Rieti.
Campo Felice feels like the top of the world – a mini Tibet! Some of the spaghetti westerns were filmed here & it’s great for ski-ing, mountain biking or walking. The restaurants & bars are good for a cappuccino or lunch.
S. Steffano and Castel Del Monte (on the old road to Pescara) are well worth a visit – medieval fortified villages, stunning views. Walk up to Roca Calscio if you’re feeling strenuous! The other fantastic place on this road is Bominaco – the best churches I’ve ever seen in my life - the Sistine chapel of the mountains!
Tivoli is excellent – Villa D’Este & Villa Adriana are stunning. On the A24 to Roma.
Roma – take the A24 from Tornimparte all the way there, or local coaches take you to the centre of Rome in approx 80 mins. Buy tickets online, at the bar of the MySuite hotel or from the driver.
