Ever stared up at a rounded ceiling? Welcome to the Maine Dome Cabin, a lovingly restored 1980s Geodesic Dome in Western Maine.
Upon entering, you immediately will be in awe of the 20ft ceiling apex and how much larger it is inside than it appears from outside. You’re greeted by a 8 ft state of Maine custom designed from Reclaimed Maine and throughout the home you’ll find products by local makers. Disconnect, reconnect. Go jump off a rock into a local swimming hole in Frenchman’s Hole, hike to Step Falls waterfall, buy locally made bread at The Local Hub and dig for Maine tourmaline on Mount Mica via Dig Maine Gems. Get off the coast and come discover the magic of western Maine!

Summer and autumn booking will have both indoor traditional (chemical) hot tub and intimate outdoor wood only burning tub.

Come enjoy this unique home sitting right on Route 232 with 2 acres in Bethel, Maine. The interior contains an open floor plan with a stunning architectural design in the style of Buckminster Fuller. Every room flows into the next and from the loft you can take it all in.

This is a great getaway for up to 9 people comfortably, with a maximum of 6 adults because we have just one shower. Please message if you have more than 9 people or more than 2 animals, we can discuss.

Bathroom 2: toilet, sink, bathtub (no shower). Access via upstairs primary bedroom.

We added an airbnb guidebook. You’re likely in the area to explore beautiful Western Maine, do hiking/skiing/mountain biking and explore the unique property that is the Maine Dome Cabin. There is nothing to walk to other than around the land. Once your reservation is confirmed, I can help you plan your stay and provide plenty of activities for all seasons in the area. Nearby are waterfalls, swimming holes, hiking, mining for gems (really!), and the best spring for drinking water possibly in the world. There is a thriving brewery and food scene where you could visit a different place every night!

I’m Kathleen and am from the West End of Portland, Maine. My mother’s family has been in Maine since the 1800s. I'm a travel writer and love all things Maine and travel.
I’ve been an Airbnb host since its launch and are 25 time in a row "Superhost". From being part of the original online couchsurfing community in the early 2000s to an early Airbnb host, my latest project is the Maine Dome Cabin. My husband Fredrik and I have the incredible restored Dome cabin in Bethel, Maine that has been featured by Visit Maine and Maine Homes Magazine since it’s launch in January 2022!

Fredrik and I am not onsite but are the owners and managers. We have local teams of cleaners, handypeople, snow plowers and more in case of any problems and I’m always at the end of the line, of course! We love the community aspect of Airbnbs and former guests have become longtime friends - even without ever meeting. That said, we keep a close watch on our property to ensure our neighbors and the local community comes first. We run The Maine Dome Cabin more like a high end quirky inn and expect it will eventually become one.

We are available via Airbnb messaging but are not instantaneous 24/7 as much as we try. We have a team of people close and far and leave numbers for emergencies. Our plow guy may have a bit of a chat with you if he sees you outside the house when he’s working but no one will bother you.
