Use my basement hideout and save big over a hotel! My place is more than a bedroom, as you have access to the kitchen, dining, and living room to hang out. Here is the most important thing to know about my place that may change whether you book it or not. The bedroom is in the basement and has a hung bedsheet for a "door" on one side. That bedsheet essentially divides the basement in half. The other half of the basement is my office with my desk, my twin bed, and some dry erase boards, and then a 3/4 bathroom (shower, no bath). Guests can use that bathroom (shared) or the one upstairs to shower (also shared). Most of the time when home I am using my desk in the basement with headphones on; I sleep on that twin bed in a separate area from guests. Guests often don’t realize I am there.

As far as sleeping, it's great because 99% of the sunlight doesn't come in. I've woken up thinking it was still dark and it was past 9 a.m. Hey, it's subterranean, this is awesome.

Also, on the other side of this listed bedroom is the entrance to the laundry room. Other guests and I will need to use it, but that’s during waking hours when most guests are out.

I prefer guests know this in detail so they know what to expect. Think of the space as 80% private room, 20% like a hostel. Many guests seem to enjoy shared spaces more than a private room especially considering the cost savings.

The room has a 55” wall-mounted TV (Netflix & Amazon Prime included, bring your own login), a medium-sized desk, and a three-person couch. There is an Echo Dot on the nightstand to use like an alarm, play music, and control the lights.

ABOUT THE REST OF HOUSE & NOISE:

My house has six bedrooms & three bathrooms (shared) spread out on three floors. There are other housemates and Airbnb guests on the property, so you’ll hear footsteps, water running, etc. Personally, I believe the presence of others is one of the best things about my place as you’ll quite likely have the opportunity to meet others in the house, share a meal, do an outing, watch movies in the living room, hang out on the patio at night with a beer. Or if you’re not feeling social, you can keep to yourself. But the house is quiet at night and this is NOT a party place, just a place to chillax.

My place is for guests that are looking for a cozy, homey experience that offers value and personal interaction that a banal or corporate airport hotel just can’t provide. I strive to provide a “hygge” experience for guests as much as possible while providing an outstanding value. What is hygge? Hygge (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) is a Danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment, whether alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary as cozy, charming, or special.

I’ve been a 5-star Airbnb guest since 2015 with at least 50 stays in dozens of countries--check my profile as a guest to verify. I have seen the good, bad, and ugly of Airbnb…and know what other guests are looking for because I am a veteran traveler. I’ve been to over 60 countries now! Ask me about Bangladesh in your intro for extra points. :)

If you’re like me, you want an easy check-in & access to the property, be able to get that WiFi password to get online ASAP, get cleaned up with a hot shower, then feel welcome to spread out and enjoy the space, cook a meal, watch TV, all this with minimal guesswork, hassles, where it all flows and is intuitive.

I enjoy chatting with guests, but will respect whether you want to chat a lot, a little, or not at all.

There are no keys to lose or to return! My place provides secure, keyless entry with an August Smart Lock. You can lock and unlock the door from your smartphone, using a unique virtual key or personal entry code issued to you for the duration of your stay.

When you book, please tell me a little bit about yourself, your trip, why you are visiting the area. This is particularly true for people new to Airbnb that do not have any reviews yet. I do not allow UNREGISTERED GUESTS/VISITORS. Only the guests that are included by name on the booking are allowed onto the property per Airbnb, regardless of age.

The neighborhood is a safe, working class, mostly residential area with homes built in the ‘40s & ‘50s. The main draw for my place is of course the proximity to the airport, perfect for airline employees, traveling nurses etc. Also, once here, getting food or a quick meal can be done without a car, there are several options within walking distance. The Mexican restaurant just 3 minutes away is a must-try. A convenience store with an ATM is even closer.

Little did I know during my first stint as a guest in a pensioners’ tiny spare bedroom during a 2015 Barcelona trip that Airbnb would impact me as much as it has. The concept of staying in an Airbnb is still as fresh to me now as during my first stay. That someone with a spare bedroom could make use of it to provide extra income, give value to guests beyond what a hotel ever could, and that the guest could have memories and experiences beyond a traditional lodging experience at more affordable price, well, that had me hooked. I knew one day I would be a host. So I am a single guy with a large house with several spare bedrooms, I bought the house in late 2019 and have been slowly fixing up the rooms, opening them up to guests in March 2020. My goal with each guest is to let them feel as they have “won” when it comes to the value they received when they’ve chosen my place.
A little about me is that I grew up in St Louis, went away to college, then was the Air Force for 11 years. One of my earlier assignments in the Air Force was in Germany, which is where I caught the travel bug. Yep…I was young man living and earning a decent salary in the heart of Europe and had a car at my disposal, so I made the most of it, seeing as much as I could in my three years there. After the Air Force, I took some time off and just traveled for months at a time, kind of this bohemian, Jack Kerouac type of lifestyle. Some of the more exotic countries from which I have great stories include Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, and Malaysia. The latter is my favorite country by the way…the food is just too good and is not internationally known, what a shame.
Now I am back home and have a home, the backpack is semi-retired, and have this house and love interacting with travelers and hearing their stories.

I am around a lot; my job is mostly online and I live in the house of course, usually in the basement at my computer. Of course, we’ll share the kitchen, living room, and dining room.
