Relax with a break at Ardilaun House in one of our spacious double rooms.

Put the kettle on and make a drink, stroll around the riverside gardens or stoke up the barbecue ... and savour Ennis and the peace of the Clare countryside.

A stone’s throw from Shannon Airport, Ennis is the perfect base from which to explore Ireland’s mid-west— the Wild Atlantic Way, the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, the Burren, Bunratty Castle, Aillwee Cave, Lahinch, Lisdoonvarna and much more.

Простор
Being at garden-floor level this double room has direct access through patio doors into Ardilaun’s splendid gardens, fringed by the river Fergus ... a welcoming ambience for weary travellers.

In addition to the en-suite bathroom, the room boasts a king-size bed, a mirrored dressing table, wardrobe and a casual table with seating with all you’ll need to make yourself a hot drink;. Also included are free wifi and a television and the breakfast room is just down the corridor.

Ardilaun’s magnificent garden falls gently to the river Fergus where there is a riverside decked area with seating, tables and a barbecue and where, if you’re up to the challenge, you might just catch your own dinner, straight out of the river.

The house has ample free parking but no car is required for the 600m walk to Ballyallia Lake, a significant site for waterbirds that has been recognised as a wetland of international importance. At Ballyallia there is easy access to lakeside walks and kayaks and stand-up boards are available for hire in July and August. (See ‘Other things to note’ below for details of other attractions, amenities and services in and around Ennis.)

Ardilaun has invested in an ozone generator to facilitate the daily sterilisation of all rooms; in addition we are committed to following all current safety procedures.

Пристап за гости
With Shannon Airport only a short distance away, access to Ennis and Ardilaun is straightforward ... only 22 minutes by car. It also means that Ardilaun the perfect place for a stop-over on that final, nostalgic night in Ireland.

From junction 14 of the motorway (the M18)—from Galway in the north and Shannon Airport to the south—Ardilaun is just over 3km (2 miles) south on the R458 towards Ennis. For those already travelling in the area, Ardilaun is on the R458 midway between Ennis and Barefield.

Two Bus Eireann services every hour also link Shannon Airport and Ennis Bus & Railway Station—routes 51 and 343; the former takes 30 minutes and the latter 45 minutes. There are also regular rail services between Limerick and Galway that stop at Ennis.
There being no onward public transport to Ardilaun from the Station (it’s a 45-minute walk) guests can arrange to be met at the Bus & Railway Station.

Through a local and reliable taxi service (number available on request), pick-up at Shannon Airport can also be arranged. By informing the driver of your incoming flight details, he will monitor its progress and be there when you land.

Ennis, the county town of Clare, retains the ambience and charm of an historical market town while offering the visitor every modern amenity ... from superb ethnic and Irish restaurants, including ‘bring-your own- bottle’ and ‘eat-as-much-as-you-can’, to traditional bars, many of which offer live music daily, Ennis has something for everyone.

It is in May and November Ennis bars and pubs start to buzz even more than usual as many become venues for traditional Irish music festivals. Additionally, every March there is the Ennis Book Club Festival which attracts renowned writers and poets from Ireland and beyond. Many of the more prestigious musical and literary events associated with these festivals are performed at the Glór, the thriving arts centre and theatre of which Ennis is rightly proud.

A short walk from Ardilaun, you’ll find Auburn Lodge which has both a restaurant and a bar. If, on the other hand, you fancy a night out in town, there is plenty of parking with easy access to the town’s restaurants and bars. If you prefer a night in —and haven’t caught dinner in the Fergus—many restaurants offer a delivery service and there are countless Takeaways, all just waiting for your call. Snacks and beverages can of course be bought at the nearby Lidl.

The town is well served by public transport and, in addition to the routes to and from Shannon Airport, Galway, Limerick and Cork, there are bus local services to well-known landmarks of the Wild Atlantic Way at Kilrush, Kilkee, Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher and, in the opposite direction, there’s Bunratty Castle. Timetables are available online at www.buseireann.ie and www.dublincoach.ie (Bunratty / Limerick / Dublin)

Additional information on all the locations and attractions for which County Clare is well-known—as well as detailed maps of the area—is available at the town’s excellent Museum and Tourist Information Centre. Here day trips can be arranged that take in the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin and a boat trip to one of the Aran Islands or you can head out instead into the mouth of the Shannon from Carrigaholt for a two-hour trip in search of the bottlenose dolphin.

In addition to such sightseeing locations, Clare has so much to offer to both the more energetic traveller and those who prefer a more leisurely holiday experience ... there’s everything from horse-riding to surfing and golf to angling and opportunities at every turn for casual walks on lake and coastal paths or taking to the hills.

And, if you’d like to get better acquainted with Ennis itself, there are daily walking tours (group and private tours can also be arranged) that will bring the town’s colourful history to life and, as well as time-worn tales of famine and poverty, murders and hangings, rebellions and riots; you might pick up a few gems about Éamon de Valera, Ireland’s longest serving Taoiseach (Prime Minister) ... and even Mohammed Ali.
