My place is a log cabin on a half-acre of grass, trees, flowers, and gardens 5 minutes from downtown and 15 from UI by car or bike. Built in 1940 from locally available materials, it was surrounded by similar properties. Now it is an oasis of green with apartments and businesses for neighbors. Nearby are grocery stores, drug stores, bars and restaurants. I have a dog and a cat and there are inherent risks if you have mobility issues. Please read Other Things to Note.

Простор
The guest bedroom is in the center of the main floor, a small but well-lit room with a window. It has a wool rug on a wood floor. The bed is a twin bed. If you are very tall or large, this room is probably too tight for you to feel comfortable in. The room contains what remains of my library, mostly US history and literature. The bathroom is right next to this room. It is large, with a clawfoot bathtub. The shower was added over the tub, so you have to step into the tub to take a shower. This is dangerous for a person with mobility issues. You may choose to stay in the large bedroom upstairs and have more space and privacy, but there is no bathroom upstairs, so you have to go up and down a steep flight of stairs. The upstairs room isn't listed because I don't want more than one registered guest at a time. However, I can accommodate two people by putting another twin mattress on the floor of the room upstairs; the extra person will pay me personally $15 per night. Or you can each have your own room, in which case the extra person will pay $25 per night, total of $65 for 2. Simple and organic breakfast included. One room upstairs has been turned into a yoga or workout room. I can also accommodate a dog, but only one and no cats. Your dog has to be clean and obedient and socialized. My dog is a well-socialized alpha female. You can't leave your dog here when you leave. My house is eclectically furnished: my grandfather was a well known landscape artist in Denver and his oil paintings grace the walls. I have a small collection of art and crafts from China, Chile, Mexico, and New Mexico.

Пристап за гости
Guests have access to all the common spaces, which is everything except our own bedrooms. The kitchen/living/eating area is one big room, cabin style. You can cook, work at the table. There's no TV. One big bedroom upstairs has been turned into a yoga/workout room. The front porch has a couch, table, and chairs, and in the summer, is another room. One side yard is a shady retreat in the summer. The back yard is a sunny grass-covered hillside with garden areas and trees. Park in my driveway, not on the street.

Останати напомени
My Chilean partner is here during the summer; he is very friendly and you can practice your Spanish. I also have a very friendly Ausssie and standoffish cat. If are very tall or very large, you won't be comfortable in the beds because all are twin beds. If you have mobility issues, my cabin is not the safest place for you. My half-acre property is in much better shape now than when I bought it in 1976. But still: it is a cabin, not the Best Western. I ask you to evaluate my place based on what it is, not what it isn't: a comfortable, homey, spacious, attractive, convenient, and superior value place. I have had wonderful guests and look forward to meeting you.

West Morton is a dead-end dirt road one block long. Neighbors include an apartment house, a carpentry shop, an electrical contractor, a spring water supplier, and storage lots. There's business traffic during the day, and you can hear traffic on highway 95. But it's quiet at night. Nearby are a grocery store, natural food store, drug stores, a neighborhood bar, a sports bar, and several restaurants. You can walk downtown as fast as you can drive and park.

I worked part-time at the Moscow Food Coop from 2006 until 2019; previously I taught English (in Chile and China) and was an editor and writer at UIdaho and WSU. I have lived in Moscow (and in this cabin) since 1976, except for time working in other places and traveling. When I was younger, I did a lot of cycling--last long trip was in Patagonia. I hike and backpack, take gym classes. I support Citizens Climate Lobby, Advocates for the West, and Friends of the Clearwater. I volunteer for Moscow Food Co-op and the Washington-Idaho Symphony. I am a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church. I have two sons and three grandchildren. I was born in New Mexico. I have a MA in US history.

You will get personal attention as a guest; how much is up to you. I'm always interested in my guests' lives. One of my regular activities is walking my dog, frequently on Moscow Mountain and other wooded ridges in the area. I am always happy to include you on these hikes. And give you a tour around town. I've lived in Moscow since 1976.
