When deciding whether to become an Airbnb host, it's important for you to understand the laws in your city. This list is not exhaustive, but it may give you a good start in understanding your local laws. Registration is required to host in Corpus Christi. Apply online to continue hosting short-term stays.

Registration

Based on Corpus Christ’s STR ordinance, all Hosts are required to register with the city. You can apply for an STR permit online. First-time users will be prompted to create an account before applying.

An STR permit is valid for 1 year from the date of issuance, and must be renewed annually. The registration fee is $50 for applications received in 2022 but will increase to $250 in 2023. The registration fee must be paid at the time of application, and subsequently with each renewal.

STR operators are required to display their valid permit number within any advertisements.

For additional questions about what’s required to host in Corpus Christi, visit the City’s STR FAQ page.

Zoning restrictions

The Corpus Christi STR ordinance sets restrictions on where STRs are permitted to operate, depending on the type of STR and where it is located. Below are definitions and applicable zoning restrictions for your reference.

Type 1 STRs

Type 1 STRs are owner-occupied (the operator rents out a room, private/guest suite, or entire property of their primary residence.) There are no zoning restrictions on Type 1 STRs, which may operate legally in any zone of the city.

Type 2 STRs

Type 2 STRs are those that are not occupied full-time by the owner. Type 2 STRs are permitted in single-family zoned districts but can only make up 15% of a block face (1 side of the street between 2 intersecting streets). There are no restrictions on Type 2 STRs in other multifamily or commercial zoning districts.

To check which zoning district your STR is located in, please visit Corpus Christi’s interactive map tool.
