The Loja by the waterThe Loja (shop/store in Portuguese) on the water’s edge was an early trading post. Canoas (boats) exchanged salt and tiles for farm produce bound for village fairs. Restored, it’s now a self-contained space in the same rural waterfront setting, tranquil yet only 20 minutes from Panjim. Experience Goa of long ago; early morning walks, cycle in the village; an 18th century chapel, temple and waterways. Be creative or idle, watch fish jump, catch your supper, sleep to the lull of running water.
Cancio's House (Cottage King Bed)We are what we are... Our family run boutique guesthouse is situated in the grounds of our over 500 year old ancestral house... We welcome you into our family and our way of life... The guesthouse is mostly furnished with restored antique furniture... Over the years we had several domestic & international guests, that include professors, architects, TV news anchors, film & airline professionals... Many of our guests are now a regular part of our family! As our guests see it... ''This was our first trip to Goa, and we will always remember our stay at Cancio's House as among the most pleasant of our vacation sojourns. The setting is beautiful, and so is the house ...and it's the authentic Goa, as opposed to the more cosmopolitan areas frequented by Goa's many tourist visitors. The gardens were a particular pleasure ...nice to wake up to in the morning. The village is quiet and offers many wonderful morning walks. But the high point of staying at Cancio's House is getting to know the family that owns and runs it. By the end of our short stay, we truly felt as if we were members of the family. They are, moreover, wonderful guides to the real Goa. They gave us much advice on where to go and what to see, all of it good. We look forward immensely to our return to Goa and our next stay at Cancio's House.'' Nearby Attractions: From here it is a short distance to: ...the St. Thomas church at Aldona (over 400 years) ...the first cable stayed bridge of Goa at Aldona ...the fort of Corjuem at Aldona (built 1705) ...the Friday market at Mapusa ...the lake at Mayem ...the waterfall at Arvalem ...the old rock cut temple cave at Arvalem Additional Services: The Aldona river is approx. 1 km from us and it is possible to hire a yacht or speedboat here to explore the beautiful riverine backwaters upto coast of Goa.
